At the beginning of the year, all 4th grade teachers give several assessments that assess fluency, accuracy and comprehension. The results help to find your child’s independent reading level. The independent reading level is a tool that helps students become better readers by guiding them to “just right” and then increasingly challenging books. The students are learning how to choose “just right” books from our leveled classroom library. Your child should be consistently reading for a minimum of 20 minutes each day. This is in addition to reading time at school. Thinking Routines for Daily ReadingComprehension Sticky Notes
